Miyagoshi Rouran 220 – Pre - Sharpening Stone (#220)
Miyagoshi Seito (宮越製陶) is a small Japanese manufacturer based in Kyoto, specializing in the production of high-quality sharpening stones. The Rouran 220 model is a thick, abrasive stone designed for intensive blade treatment – especially for regenerating severely dulled edges or removing chips.
It is produced in a controlled sintering process, in which the abrasive is bound with a durable binder, fired at high temperature. As a result, the stone offers high abrasive aggression, while maintaining dimensional stability and high wear resistance.
Application of #220 grit
220 grit is the typical choice for pre-sharpening:
- quick removal of material from the blade,
- correction of nicks and damage to the cutting edge,
- restoring the blade to a usable condition before further smoothing.
Ideal for kitchen knives, workshop tools, and steel blades that require a thorough reconstruction of the cutting geometry.
Characteristic features:
- handcrafted in Kyoto – full quality control,
- fast and effective work – very good abrasive aggression,
- durable, vitrified structure – the stone does not collapse and wears slowly,
-
large working size – comfortable work even with larger knives,
- pleasant to use pink color – better visibility of work marks.
