The Shapton Kuromaku Professional is a coarse whetstone with a grit size of #320, which is useful for repairing damaged knives, as well as broken tips or any chips. It quickly removes steel.
The sharpening stones in the Shapton Kuromaku Professional series are considered to be among the hardest, and therefore the best, sharpening stones currently available on the market. Compared to almost every competing brand, they have the advantage of wearing down the least, and the fact that they do not require frequent flattening makes them very convenient to use. Shapton Kuromaku Professional stones can be used on hard steels, such as ZDP-189 and R2.
The so-called “Splash and Go” – Kuromaku sharpening stones do not require soaking because they do not absorb water (unlike most competing stones). Before using a new stone for the first time, simply soak it for 5 minutes, and then – each time thereafter – just moisten it to make it immediately ready for use.
Another feature appreciated by users of Kuromaku Professional stones is the speed at which they remove metal, and therefore sharpen. These ceramic stones are created using a special production method that gives them a high degree of hardness. The manufacturer has taken care to select the best ceramic and abrasive materials, which contributes to the functional qualities of the Kuromaku Professional sharpening stones. Each stone is packed in a functional box that can be used as a stone holder, which is useful during sharpening.
Please note that these stones should not be soaked for more than a few hours.
