The excellent Shapton Kuromaku Professional stone with a grit of #8000 is designed for finishing and polishing cutting edges. With this stone, we are able to achieve an exceptionally high level of sharpness. The #8000 stone does not produce a “mirror” effect during polishing but leaves a slight matte finish, similar to that obtained on natural stones.
One of the hardest sharpening stones, the excellent Shapton brand products are second to none. Sharpening stones from the Shapton Kuromaku Professional collection, compared to other brands, do not wear out as quickly, and what is more, there is no need to flattening them as often. They can be used to work with high-hardness steels, such as R2 or ZDP-189.
Thanks to their non-water-absorbing properties, Kuromaku stones, known as “Splash and Go,” do not require soaking before use (this distinguishes them from the vast majority of competing brands). Before use, they only need to be moistened, and then they can be used to sharpen kitchen knives. The exception is the first time, when it is recommended to soak the new stone in water for a while – for about 5 minutes – and then you can start working.
Another advantage of Kuromaku Professional ceramic stones is their speed – they cut steel very efficiently, allowing the user to sharpen quickly. The excellent ceramic stones from the Kuromaku Professional series are packed in a handy box that also serves as a holder during sharpening.
Please note – Shapton Kuromaku Professional Stones should not be soaked in water for more than a few hours.
