The Higonokami pocket knife is highly regarded in Japan. It has the same reputation as the Swiss Army knife in its country of origin and around the world. The Japanese Higonokami was designed in 1896 and is a chikiri-based mechanism. A small forged lever opens the knife. This tool is perfect for everyday tasks like sharpening pencils, opening packages and cutting fruit.
The Higonokami pocket knife is a durable, lightweight tool with universal applications. The BLACK version is made of high-quality high-carbon steel called SK-5. The heat treatment gives it a hardness of around 60 HRC. The black Kurouchi finish gives the blade a unique look. Higonokami pocket knives do not have a locking system. The blade is held securely in place by friction. Remove the blade from the handle by pressing the "chikiri" – an iconic lever that must be held down with your thumb while using the knife to prevent it from closing. After use, rinse and dry the Higonokami thoroughly.
