The most popular Japanese pocket knife, Higonokami, is as famous in Japan as the world- famous Swiss Army knife. It was designed in 1896, and its special feature is a mechanism called “chikiri.” It is formed by a small forged lever used to open it. Higonokami is an excellent and handy tool for many everyday tasks, such as sharpening pencils, opening a variety of packages, and cutting fruits.

The lightweight and durable Higonokami pocket knife is small in size, has a simple design, and is versatile in many situations. The SILVER version is made of high-quality high-carbon steel SK-5, which is hardened to approx. 60 HRC. Over time, the blade develops a patina, making the pocket knife more unique. This knife does not have a locking system, but uses the iconic “chikiri” locking mechanism, which uses friction to keep the blade securely in place. To remove it from the handle, press the lever and keep your thumb on it while using the pocket knife to keep it open. When you are finished, rinse and dry the Higonokami carefully.
