The most famous folding knife in Japan, the Higonokami, was designed in 1896. Its reputation in the Land of the Rising Sun can be compared to that of the Swiss Army Knife in Switzerland and the rest of the world. The special mechanism of the Higonokami, called "chikiri," is used to open it and consists of a small lever. This Japanese folding knife is excellent for sharpening pencils, opening packages, and cutting fruits and other everyday tasks.
The universal purpose of the Higonokami pocket knife is due to its simple yet durable construction, lightweight, and easy handling. The BLACK version features a blade with a core made of SK-5 carbon steel, encased in soft iron handles. The blades are hardened to approximately 59 HRC. The special characteristic of this collection is the black Kurouchi finish, which gives the knives a unique appearance. Over time and use, the blade develops a patina, further enhancing its distinctive character.
By pressing the mentioned "chikiri" lever, the blade can be extended from the handle, and its retention can be ensured by holding it with the thumb. After each use, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse and dry the blade.
