    Miyagoshi Takasegawa 1000 – Sharpening Stone (#1000)

Miyagoshi Seito (宮越製陶) is a small manufacturer from Kyoto that has specialized in the production of durable and precise sharpening stones for decades. The Takasegawa 1000 is a medium grit stone, designed for everyday sharpening of knives and tools. Its high efficiency and controlled abrasiveness make it the most versatile stage of sharpening – between preliminary grinding and final smoothing.

The stone is produced by vitrification – a mixture of abrasive and binder is formed under high pressure and fired at a temperature of approximately 1300°C. This gives the Takasegawa 1000 high durability, high working flatness, and uniform abrasive properties across its entire surface.

    Application of #1000 grit

Grit 1000 is the standard for everyday cutting edge care:

    • for maintaining the sharpness of kitchen knives and steel tools,
    • for removing micro-damage and flattening the blade surface,
    • as an intermediate step between pre-sharpening (#220–#400) and finishing (#3000+).

Takasegawa 1000 works effectively on carbon, stainless, and powder steels – suitable for both Japanese kitchen knives and workshop tools.

    Characteristic features:

    • handmade in a small workshop in Kyoto,
    • vitrified structure – fired at 1300°C for durability and resistance,
    • microporous surface – retains water well, facilitates control over sharpening,
    • stable working flatness – less frequent need for flattening,
    • same type of abrasive and finish as the Turugi model – light, yellowish-white surface, smooth and easy to read during work.
