The Shapton Kuromaku Professional #1500 Grit Stone is used for regular sharpening, as well as for honing the cutting edge. It is a universal and, at the same time, the most basic sharpening stone.
The water stones from the Shapton Kuromaku Professional line are unique in every way. They are considered to be among the best stones currently available on the market. When compared to almost any other brand, it is safe to say that Shapton stones wear down the slowest. They also do not require frequent flattening, which is a significant advantage for every user. In addition, these stones are perfect for very hard steels, such as ZDP-189 or R2.
Kuromaku stones, called “Splash and Go,” have the property of not absorbing water (unlike the vast majority of other stones). Therefore, they do not need to be soaked before use, but only moistened. The exception is the first time, when a new stone is soaked in water for 5 minutes, after which it can be used normally.
Another important feature of the Kuromaku Professional Series stones is their speed, which means efficient steel collection and fast sharpening. These ceramic stones are manufactured in a unique way, which gives them a high degree of hardness. They retain their properties for a long time, and flattening is not required. The manufacturer uses precisely matched materials, both ceramic and abrasive, to produce Kuromaku Professional Stones. The stones come in practical boxes that can be used as a holder during sharpening.
Please note that these stones should not be soaked for more than a few hours.
