The Shapton Naoru Lapping System with Cast Iron Lapping Stone is designed to clean and flatten your sharpening stones. It was designed with Shapton stones in mind, but can also be used successfully on other sharpening stones. The set consists of a cast iron lapping plate and two bottles of lapping powder (silicon carbide grains): coarse and medium.

Even if you use the best sharpening stones in the world, you will not be able to use them to their full potential if they are not completely flat. That is why it is so important to flatten them. Leave this task to the Shapton Naoru System. The flattening stone is heavy, hard, and the right size (10 x 4 inches). It features crystal-structured grooves that enhance the synergy between the flattening stone and the silicon carbide grains, helping to remove sharpening sludge and ensuring that the stone can perform as intended.

The Shapton Naoru Lapping System includes two bottles of silicon carbide grit. One contains coarser grit, designed for flattening Shapton stones with a grit size between 120 and 320. The second bottle contains medium grit, designed for flattening Shapton sharpening stones with grit sizes between 1000 and 4000. Do you want to flatten stones with grit sizes of 5000 and above? Use the bottle of fine grit, which is sold separately.

How to use the Shapton Naoru Lapping System:

1. Place the lapping stone on a stable surface.
2. Pour water over the stone so that the water reaches the corners.
3. Apply silicon carbide grains to 3/4 of the stone and spread them evenly.
4. Now you can start flattening your sharpening stone.

Before you begin, use a pencil to draw a grid on your sharpening stone. This will help you determine how long you need to perform flattening on the stone so that you don't remove too much material.

Place your stone on the lapping stone, and move it from corner to corner. This diagonal movement will allow you to use the full surface of the stone, ensuring that your sharpening stone is flattened evenly. In addition, you will ensure that dirt is removed immediately. This will make your stone like new! Add water and additional grit as needed during use. When you are finished flattening, clean both the lapping stone and the sharpening stone to avoid scratches.
