Camellia Oil - Tsubaki for the care of Japanese knives
Camellia Oil – Tsubaki is a traditional Japanese oil used to maintain Japanese knives. Regular oiling of the blade is particularly important for knives made of high-carbon steel (such as Aogami or Shirogami steel), which corrode quickly without proper care.
Tsubaki camellia oil is cold-pressed from sweet camellia seeds, and has been used throughout Japan for centuries to protect blades, tools, and weapons. It is an acid-free, non-drying, tasteless, and odorless oil that is safe for contact with food and non-toxic.
A few drops of oil on a paper towel or kitchen cloth are enough to apply a thin, protective layer that will help prevent surface oxidation and corrosion.
Instructions for use:
- For high-carbon steel knives, we recommend applying the oil with a soft, clean cloth after each use to prevent rusting and protect the surface of the knife.
- For rust-resistant knives (steels such as ZDP-189, R2, VG-10), we recommend applying the oil with a soft, clean cloth once or twice a month, depending on the frequency of use.
- Before reusing the knife for food preparation, wash it with water and rinse thoroughly.
