Fine whetstones are sharpening stones with grit sizes ranging from #3000. They are crucial for the final quality of the knife. They make the edge very smooth, sharp, and light.
Working with a finishing stone is both a technical process and a pleasant ritual. Each time you move the knife on the stone, the blade gets smoother until it easily cuts through vegetables or meat.
